Who are we trying to impress?

This is a question, I think, has many answers. I would say “It all depends in what field we are playing, and what is most important to us.  At the job, I guess, we would like to impress our boss or whoever has to report on us. It would be very pleasant to hear from your boss, if you ever have to leave, that “they are sorry” because you were an asset to the company. At home it would be either our parents or our husband/wife. But, what about anywhere else?  Is everyone important enough to have a desire to make an impression on them? Why?

Sometimes it is hard to impress anyone in particular because we do not know them and it is hard to provide the best for everyone which is why the people who work on entertainment try to please most, since they live off it, and many times they conduct polls in order to find out what is the preference of most. That is, of course, on the places that practice freedom of choice, and the ones who entertain want to do exactly that, offer their best to show a good time.  Others, who do not care, even in freedom are doomed to impress themselves and all those who think like them, usually to pall the truth. It is sad what some people, especially in some means of communication, could diverge from the truth, or change some aspect, or not say it completely, to make it sound something it is not. That usually happens with Political Agendas used to convince people. Remember the saying of “the lie repeated many times…”

Are we trying to impress someone? Well, if you ask me I could say I feel good when people tell me, for instance, they like my cooking, because I put all my effort in doing it for my family. I think everyone is like that because we all love our families. So if by doing it good we are trying to impress them, great! That shows our love too. Do we need to impress God in order to show Him our love?  I do not think so. We are kind of selfish and by “impressing” someone we are expecting some kind of praise and it is us who should praise Him for what He’s done, and not the other way around. We should not make Him angry or sad at our behavior. He will not be impressed by us. He is our Creator and He knows us inside and out. Remember He said: But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. (Mathew 10.30)  So, knowing this, we are the ones who should be impressed by Him, and by everything He did when He lived among us. God knows what we are capable of doing. That is why He gives us opportunities to do good and impress others by giving Him all the glory (Soli Deus Gloria) and not to any human effort.

The truth is that we were created by an intelligent Being Who made us perfect, with all we needed to survive on this earth and to rule it, were made in His own image and gave us free will because He did not create us as animals (to feed other beings) or puppets like (to be slaves); but in our disobedience for wanting to be like the Creator, we chose to be slaves of sin, and separated from Him who loved us so that decided to pay the price of our error to cleanse us and live with Him forever. Of course, that is our choice. We can either live with Him forever or struggle without Him. And all of that can start “right here and right now”. He wants us all to live, but the choice is ours. If we reject Him now, we should not sadden when He rejects us, then.

Like I said last time, I do not like to talk about other themes which might deviate the attention from the main principle I need to talk about, which is the plan our Creator has for us. Nevertheless, when there is something which might contribute to the truth in goodness for the majority of us and helps what God has put in my heart to talk about, I will bring it to attention. That is why I would like to give credit to a radio program I set my alarm every Saturday morning, to listen to at 7.30 AM, on the Spanish radio: La Poderosa 670 AM; the Spiritual Breakfast program with Doctor Otero (DDS) and Eduardo Alemán (commentator), which has been a powerful nourishment to our souls for all those who can understand it, in the midst of these difficult times. And their aim is exactly the same as mine, to comply with Jesus command to outspread the Good News. How? By letting everyone know that when we decide to follow Jesus (the son of God) we will grow in wisdom to do what’s best, thanks to the Holy Spirit who lives in us (that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him or know Him.) (John 14.17a) and intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words. (Romans 8.26c)

Jesus wants us to impress others with the truth that is why he called us LIGHT:  “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. “Let your lamp shine before men in such a way, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.    (Mathew 5. 14-16)
