What is “great” to
you? Many people could say: “A car”, “A house”, “A paid vacation”, or anything
that is big or expensive, but actually, something “great” is something that
makes you feel the best. Like the dictionary defines it “something remarkable
in magnitude, degree or effectiveness. And what could that be for you?
I once asked someone
what he was going to give to his girlfriend on Valentine's and he answered
“Myself”. I argued, “No, no, it’s Valentine’s, you give that everyday, you must
give something special” but he maintained “Can you find something more special
for her than myself? I am the one who
solves any problem she might have, I’m always there when she needs me, I make
her laugh when she is sad, and also when she’s not. I offer my shoulder for her to cry on, and
wipe off her tears. I love her and she loves me. We have a wonderful time
together. Don’t you think that’s great enough?”
I got to thinking and
after a few seconds I said: “You know, you are right; there’s no better gift
than a great time together with who you appreciate, laugh together and have a
blast.” Later, I learned he was putting
me on because he was fixing to give her the wedding ring that day, by coming out of a huge gift box at her door
step. Isn’t that remarkable in magnitude, degree and effectiveness? In other
word: GRRREAT!!!
A good time we could
give someone is a great gift, and that is what God has asked us to do in
“loving one another” as Jesus said. Any good thing that makes you smile shows
LOVE and the Scriptures say: Above all keep fervent in your LOVE for one
another, because LOVE covers a multitude of sins. (I Peter 4.8)
Hope someone gives you
a great gift this year. Happy Valentine!!!
