Are we carrying a very heavy load?

Sometimes I am told so when I carry my purse. If you know how women purses are that we carry the unthinkable “just in case we may need it,” especially when we travel and we have to take anything we might need in case of an emergency in an unknown place, (and everything we don’t need too.) And my husband tells me: “I don’t know how you can carry that,” and I think, “it is our nature to be on top of everything.” I mean of immediate needs, because my husband takes care of larger ones, like for instance in a trip he makes sure we get the best deals to see the most in the least amount of time and be secure. That is the perfect combination that God designed for us so that the burden is not only on one person and we could help each other. He said two is better than one.
Nevertheless there are instances when some people are alone to carry on with a load that is too much for them, or perhaps they simply feel that way because the “number two” does not help. In another time and place that was called “your cross.”
“The cross” is the consignment we deal with as we travel on the road of Life, and we have to carry it with grace. I know sometimes is burdensome and unbearable, but we can change that if we want to. Actually, not us, but Jesus can. He can make our way through life pleasant. Psalm 55.22 says: Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be shaken. That is because the ones who think the Lord has a great purpose for them in life whatever comes upon us will be necessary.(Romans 8.28)
When Jesus came into this earth He knew what he came for, to carry a load that would make us free of our barrier to have a perfect life in His companionship. That is why He invites us to rest on Him, and what a load He took. When I visited the Via Dolorosa I could not help thinking how hard it would have been for a badly battered body to carry on that heavy cross. I was feeling it too. And even when the song says: “Down the Via Dolorosa. . .” is not really down but up. The city is built on a hill and you walk up and down all the time, but on that particular path it was up. Horrible! But He did it for His love for us.
During this Passion Week think about how much He gave up to be able to save us, being King, and how little we offer in return, and even so He is asking us to bring our heavy loads to him to free us from any iniquity. Now is the opportunity we have to feel the future that awaits us. Jesus said:
Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and my burden is light.       (Matthew 11.28-30)
