A relative who was
born in the faith (but seems agnostic now) asked me if it was right for a “Christian”
to act with prejudice. I argued about
the veracity of that Christian’s faith and answered: “I do not think a true
Christian should have a questionable behavior. Maybe he’s not a true Christian.”
Many people have made
comments about “Christians’ behavior” in a critical offensive manner. Others,
even Christian pastors, have pointed out how unfortunate it is for someone who
calls him or herself a Christian to act in such a way that is very far from the
fact, when they desire or even predict eternal condemnation for anyone they
think deserve it. (Are they going to be the judges?) It is sad that a so called Christian should
act in such a demeaning way because if we are Christian is because we believe
in the way Jesus, the Christ, taught us when He lived among us and it is
testified in the Holy Scriptures that He said: Love your enemies and pray for
those who persecute you (Matthew 5.44) . . . If your enemy is hungry, feed him
(Romans 12.20a) . . . If someone slaps you on you right cheek,
turn the other to him also. (Matthew 5. 39 b) and when He was asked
about forgiving seven times He said: “I do not say up to seven, but up to
seventy times seven.” (Matthew 18.22). He also said: The
Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve (Matthew 20.28a).
And when He washed his disciples’ feet he said “For I gave you an example that
you also should do as I did to you.” (John 13.15) The Christian doctrine is one of LOVE, forgiveness,
and service, even to the enemies, and whoever does not behave in that manner
should not be called a Christian, I think.
Of Course, we know
about the Grace of God which embraces ALL. Yet, not everyone is perfect as to
deserve any goodness, whatsoever. We are
all sinners. Contrary to what other non-Christian religions believe, we are
born that way due to the insubordination of our predecessors: Adam and Eve, who
disobeyed God by eating the fruit from the only tree they were told not to. We
inherited their sin, as everything else.. As it is written: There is NONE righteous;
not even one (Romans 3.10) . . . for ALL have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God. (Romans 3.23) So,
no matter what we do about it, we can not take away that “stain” off, except
with blood. And without shedding of blood there’s no forgiveness (Hebrews 9.22b). .
. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by his
blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. (Romans 5.8-9).
So what can we do about it? BELIEVE! And SEEK Him. We will be part of his
family, and as so we shall enjoy life with Him, forever.
Be gracious to me, o God,
according to your loving kindness; according to the greatness of Your
compassion blot out my transgressions. (Psalm 51.1)
I sought the Lord, and He
answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.
(Psalm 34.4)
