Are we making History?

I am convinced a lot of people do not care about that. Although there will be a moment in their life they are going to wish to have played, at least, a supporting role in it. Many of us, who were not born in the USA, but have the privilege to live here; probably do not know we already have been a part of its history. Some could care less; if their interest was merely for economic reasons or perhaps with an infiltration agenda; nothing would move them. Others get so involved in it that they completely forget about their roots and will not care the other way either. But, many of us are enjoying the dual citizenship so much so that we feel highly honored to be a part of both.

On the 20th of May, the people from my country of birth will celebrate one more year of independence from the colonizer. I am proud of my roots! Cuba y el Cayo Hueso de Ayer (Cuba and the Key West of Yesterday) is a book rich in detail about the history of Key West which shows how much the Cuban people had to do with it. Alejandro F. Pascual, its author, lives there and tells us of how its history relates to the Cubans who fled the colony. If we go to Key West and take the trolley, we’ll hear about it too as we have been cultural contributors. Every time I travel and see either a bust of any of our Patriots or any historical picture of ours, I feel part of this country’s history. It’s like we could add ours to the Six Flags recreational parks account. In the above mentioned book it is told of the times our apostle José Martí came to Key West to give speeches from the balcony of the San Carlos Institute to hundreds of Cubans who met there in US soil. It feels as though it were now, such as when we go to the Eight Street marches to listen to Pérez-Roura or any other deserving speaker. It’s like our reality is making history again, and the evil bondage which my country of origin now suffers will also disappear. After having been rejected for wanting to flee an absurd situation, and were verbally assaulted with the worst epithet, we have come to exile; and formed communities we can offer those who once attacked us there, and are here now. They probably realized we were right, and know now that the equalitarian system simply DOES NOT WORK. Even God knows that and He created a variety in everything, reason for which those systems are atheists.

As a Christian I am very proud to know that many of the ones who were killed in cold blood, at the start of the so called revolution in Cuba, died shouting Long live Christ the King! They were probably convinced that it was the Antichrist they were conflicting with, which is anybody or anything that opposes God, and Christ, His only begotten son. I know there are many who do not believe this, but if they read and scrutinize the Scriptures more, they would know it. As Mary, the sister of Lazarus told Jesus when her brother had died —and Jesus said he would rise again and asked her if she believed him.—: Yes, Lord I believe that you are the Messiah, the son of God, the one coming into the world. (John 11:27) John also tells us in his letter: No one who denies the Son has the father also. (I John 2:23).  I am also proud to have a Patriot like Oscar Elías Biscet who is a true Christian who bids for life opposing abortion. This year, when the Pope visited Cuba, he was kept caged together with others like him from the opposition, to avoid intrusion, yet others protested and were kicked by someone dressed as a Red Cross worker. (the wolves always disguise themselves).

We Christians should also make history so many would know the Truth and do not trust the antichrists. Our fighters who are doing it, like Oscar Elías Biscet, will be greatly blessed, as the prophet Isaiah spoke: How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news who announces salvation who says  “Your God reigns” (Isaiah 52:7) Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. . .  fasten the belt of truth around your waist and put on the breastplate of righteousness. As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
 (Ephesians 6:13-17 NRSV)
