How Appreciative Are We?

The only son of a fine family, who had moved to a gloomy ghost like town, was having a birthday party and the whole town was invited to celebrate with them. It was the great event of the town and everyone came to take advantage of the abundance of food and entertainment. All the people knew about the date since it had become the town’s annual tradition. The closest ones to the family brought gifts, others only came to have fun, eat, and drink in excess. Others with ill intentions came to steal gifts and to destroy anything they touched; in their envy, they didn’t care for what was not theirs. There was such a commotion and only the elite were given attention and importance. When it was time to cut the cake and have the boy photographed for the local newspaper, he was nowhere to be found; he had disappeared. Despite this tragic event, the family continued to acknowledge the life of their child and the town continued to attend the festivities. As time passed, the people started forgetting the story, and many celebrated not knowing why. Only the family who remembered him truly honored his life.
Many years passed, and one day a very wealthy man appeared at the town and said he was that boy who had left. He emphasized how he loathed “The party” since it had become the only thing that mattered to everyone. The people did not believe him and went about their daily routine and he went in search of his family to take them to live with him in his Palace far away where they did not have to worry about anything else. Since there was no family to ever remember the feast motif anymore, it was forgotten by all until the place became again the same gloom ghost like town it once was.

It was about two thousand and some years ago in the first year of our time that Christ came to this gloomy world to bring HOPE to all men: The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light ; they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them has the light  shined. (Isaiah 9:2).  The prophet foretold hundreds of years before it happened. And what was that Light which shone on them? : For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His authority shall grow continually and there shall be endless peace for the throne of David and his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time onward and forevermore. (Isaiah 9:6-7) We should remember that Jesus Christ, on his human side, is a direct descendant of King David after 28 generations (Read first chapter of Mathew). And why did the people dwell in the shadow of death?  For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive
(I Corinthians 15:22) It is also said: For ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23) Ah, but thanks to the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe. . . (Romans 3:22) we will be acquitted.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved (John 3:17) Therefore, that should be reason enough to be joyous and thankful for the opportunity that is given to us, and share with others the real reason for the Season we celebrate, giving it its real name: CHRISTmas.  For it is the birth of the only one mediator between God and men; he is the Savior of anyone who wants to live with Him, from now until eternity.
If others also celebrate their feasts during this time, they can wish good tidings within their own people, but the ones who settled in this land established their ideals of prosperity through which we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. That being said, we should be appreciative and honor the Season’s true name, not “Happy Holidays”, but wish everyone a very

                     Merry Christmas!
